Village Life
There is a lot more to Bhutan than dzongs and monasteries.
If you have some extra time, we can take you through villages and farming areas where you can see a little more of everyday life.
You might walk through a village, stop at a farmhouse, see people working in the fields or meet a family along the way. Most village walks are easy and can be as short or as long as you like.
Much of Bhutan still lives by the farming calendar. What you see depends on the season — planting, harvesting, drying chillies or animals moving between pastures.
A farmhouse visit usually means sitting down for butter tea or a simple meal and talking for a while. Sometimes something unexpected happens too — a local celebration, an archery match, or simply a conversation.
We don't want these visits to feel like a performance arranged for tourists. If we visit a family or community, it should be done respectfully and with their agreement. Nothing here is guaranteed, and that is the point.
This is also why we prefer not to fill every day with sightseeing stops. Having some free time gives you a chance to notice things that aren't on an itinerary.
Which villages we can include depends on where you are travelling and the time of year. We will suggest what fits your route rather than adding a detour for its own sake.
Good forTravellers who want to slow down, meet people and see how life is lived outside the main tourist places.
These are not fixed activities that have to be added to every trip.
Some travellers may be more interested in monasteries and history. Others may prefer food, villages, walking or meeting local people.
Tell us what interests you, how much time you have and what kind of pace you prefer. We can then work these experiences into your itinerary where they make sense.
Sometimes the best part of a day is something that wasn't planned.
