The Story Behind 1616

Bhutan is not just where we operate. It is home.

I created 1616 Travel Bhutan to share my country in a more personal way. As a Bhutanese guide, I want to take travellers beyond the usual sights and show them some of the Bhutan I know.

I grew up with these valleys, festivals, traditions and everyday ways of life. For me, travelling through Bhutan is not only about seeing places. It is also about the food you try, the people you meet, the stories you hear and the time you spend along the way.

About 1616

The name 1616 is a nod to a year that matters in Bhutan. It reminds us that this country has a long history and a living culture, and that we are only the latest people to welcome travellers here. Our journeys are shaped by that sense of place — not by trends, but by what we actually know and value about Bhutan.

We plan every trip here, based on the roads we have travelled, the people we know, and the moments we think are worth sharing. Some guests want to visit the places they have heard about — the dzongs, the monasteries, Tiger’s Nest. Others want to turn off the main road, spend time in a quieter valley, or follow a local festival. We can do either, or a little of both.

We are not trying to be the biggest travel company. We prefer to keep things small, so we can look after our guests properly and give each trip the attention it deserves. That means clear planning, honest advice, and someone from our team with you along the way.
